Big Day! Sunday May 18

My training plan always has me doing a long run on Saturday and a long bike ride on Sunday.

Since it was Blue Nose marathon wknd and I haven't missed one in its 11 yr history, I shifted my run to Sunday and decided to do the half marathon since my plan said a 2 hr run.

Saturday, as volunteer Board members, Jennifer Lewandowski and  I had the joy and honour to represent the Halifax Triathlon Club at the Speaker's Corner stage at the Expo. It was at 10h30 and conflicted with the youth run (4100 kids participated - yay!) so our audience size was modest but those who were there received a quick presentation on the theme "TRY A TRi" and basic 15 min experience-based chat to runners who have never done a tri - sorta a Triathlon 101 or Everything you ever wanted to know about the sport of  triathlon but were afraid to ask. We kept it light and had fun doing it!

Sunday
My half marathon wasn't the fastest - last year my time was 1:53 a personal record. This year the focus wasn't speed but training and enjoying my weekly long run with thousands for company. I was so chill, I didn't leave the house until 7:10am and the race start was 8:10. 40 min drive, finding parking, quickly walking to site to drop off my bag, long porta-pottie line... The gun went off as I was in the honey-hut (sure didn't smell sweet like honey ) because there are so many people who run the half I made it to the start and there were still several hundred who had yet to cross the timing chip start line. The weather for a change was perfect! Many records were broken by friends and two Kenyan men who made the event that much more exiciting
Here's what I wore and link to my results

Later the same day I decided to do my long bike as the forecast for the holiday Monday was not good. Also it meant I could leave Monday as a recovery day with just a swim.

Here I am sporting my new Cactus Cycling Club attire with Evangeline loaded with her luggage rack & bag to imitate a typical ride to and from work.

51k each way but usually with a 8 hr workday in between, I plan at least once a wk to do this ride to get in more mileage. Longer home due to climbs.
This day it was so foggy and cold in the city I had to pile on all the clothes I had in the luggage bag - windbreaker & rain pants. All of it came off as I moved away from the harbour
