The countdown has officially begun.
Cheers!
For the next 2 weeks leading up to EPIC I will train with exactly the same schedule as I will do for Ironman Lake Placid 29 days later! It's a full dress rehearsal for how I will exercise, eat, sleep, rest... Only significant differences ... By Placid I'll have more open water swim practices completed... I don't have the stress and wear and tear of a 15 hr drive away from home. I know the Epic course quite well - never yet trained on LP course. I will not race at 100% effort for EPIC as it is a "b" race - important to me yes! But not the big one! The EPIC distance is a full half marathon run whereas the Ironman is a full full marathon distance which for me is a huge leap.
Admit I've had a few fleeting butterfly's over the past few days about EPIC fast approaching ... Then I remind myself, it won't be easy but II WILL be ready.
Or as one of the nifty EPIC slogans go...
June 29th...
3.8k swim
180k bike
21.1k half marathon run
This will be the longest triathlon for me - ever!
(Until IMLP on July 27th)
Please - if you are in the area...
Consider coming to cheer me on! Barry will be at his annual softball tournament in PEI that weekend. Kristin doesn't arrive until after Canada Day the following Tuesday. It is always a lift especially during the run at the end to hear your name hollered out in encouragement.
And - Or
Please consider volunteering some time to help the race go smoothly http://epicdartmouth.com/volunteers/
