Sylvie Wetherup
We are the definition of "best friends forever" ... 44 yrs & counting
We meet in grade one at the age of 6 in Ottawa. We were essentially raised by single mothers at a time when it was highly uncommon. That bonded us as well as so many similarities since. We have lived parallel lives ... Me on the Atlantic coast - Sylvie on the Pacific coast. We have managed to visits each other at our respective homes and in other places in between.
We are family.
Soul Sisters.
Her generous wonderful Dickson Au gifted both of us an amazing 50th birthday year present. He flew me in from Halifax to Seattle on June 11th.
He has gathered 40 friends of Sylvie's together at the Alderbrook Resort & Spa on the Hood Canal - approx.2 hr drive NW of Seattle.
My BFF was surrounded by love on June 12 her big day. The location is stunning and the facility top drawer! Thanks again to Dickson for covering everyone's fabulous meal and providing the best vino he hand selected - something he is renowned for!
Too many details and not enough time as I'm cycling back to Seattle this morning with Ironman and new friend Scott Woodman. The Woodman family have made this trip perfect for me. Scott is doing Ironman Canada in Whistler the very day I will be doing IM Lake Placid. Esther agreed to lend me her tri bike to use while here. Their 17 yr old daughter Alex and I hit it off and spent quality time together the first 2 days.
Quick snapshot of workouts here during mine (& Scott's recovery week)
June 11 - 5k run after 12 hrs in transit ... with Alex & golden doodles Ziggy & Zoe
June 12 - cycled the lower Washington Lake loop solo...50k + 15 min run before noon
June 13 - 3 hr / 27k run along scrnic Hood Canal (Scott & dog too but not together as I had to go earlier to try to alleviate tummy illness which it did til the run was done)
FIRST OPEN WATER LAKE SWIM!!! in my new wetsuit. Lake was warm but very choppy and weedy. Borrowed Scott's old googles but seal was gone. The 600m was tough based on above. Happy I forced myself back in for another 415m that felt better, thrilled to get the first lake swim done.
Today - plan is 125k bike ... Most on this end... Then ferry from Bremerton to Seattle. Then Seattle to Woodman's in Bellevue approx 20k
Day off tomorrow - flight at 6am
Lots more and will update text off this post but here are some photos of Sylvie & I over the years ... Enjoy!
