a. I'm dragging water around - great for strength training lousy for racing. And not very bouyant either.
b. cold water inside wetsuit in belly, back, legs = hypothermic feeling after 1.5m on Monday evening. Opposite of what a new higher end wetsuit is supposed to do...
Sooo... After a miserable day of disappointment - time for solutions.
Posted on Facebook to tri club members and on my timeline the following:
Wanna swap/buy brand new women's Xterra vortex pro med-lrg? bought this winter (used only 6 swims = 5300m) Msg me & let's make a deal! Need same or similar or close-enough in med - small-med. Must have sleeves & be new or gently used. (Still have my old Blue 70). Cheers 'n thnx
My old wetsuit... Was too big at the end of each of the last few yrs due to me being at race weight. Snug usually at this time of year. I am close to race weight now. I will try it tonight. Even when it was too big it wasn't as big as the new one.
I LOVE this suit but it isn't as bouyant as it once was but better than nothing. And there are two small rips, only one of which lets in a trickle of water.
This morning I posted the following:
Wetsuit crisis day two: anyone know a local shop for quick repairs? Old suit needs 2 patches.
Old wetsuit - 3-4 yrs ago
Another thing I did yesterday was borrowed a club wetsuit. It is sleeveless and a medium. I've never used a sleeveless before but if my old one can't be used due to fit or leaks and I can't find one from another gal, it is better than no wetsuit and at least I have a few more days to try it swimming.
On Saturday (day before EPIC) I am doing the EPIC 1k swim "race". I put quotes around race as others - mostly real compettitve swimmers will be racing. I plan to use it as my training day pre-race swim. Why not eh? Gives me a chance to do mass start and experience the anxiety and chaos of the human washing machine at the race venue where I will swim 3.8k the next morning. I hope it will help me deal with nerves not having raced since last September. I plan to swim as per my plan - frenzied 100m the settle in - try to draft - practice surging past others kicking, pushing, poking me (not on purpose - mostly lol! - just the reality of close quarters)
For doing the swim I get a wonderful finishers medal and for registering early this lovely souvenir towel!
